How do I use self-tanning products?
Advice differs on how to use self-tanning products from different manufactures on their own particular products, so particular attention must be paid to instructions for use with every product that you buy.
That said, here are a few basic tips to use with any self- tanning lotion or cream to get the best results. Always do a patch test on a small area of the skin not seen on a daily basis, this will ensure you have no allergic reaction to any of the chemicals contained in the product and you can be sure that the colour suits you.
Having done that, exfoliate all rough areas of the skin including knuckles, elbows, knees and ankles. Keep these areas exfoliated for as long as you are using the product, as they quickly become rough again through life’s daily grind.
Use vaseline on areas not to be tanned, for example on eyebrows and cuticles, and do not have a bath or shower for about 6 hours after application of the cream or lotion.
Finally use surgical gloves when applying any self-tanning product to avoid deeply tanned and impossible to clean hands. The latest products available come in the form of a spray. A fine mist is applied to the body, giving a beautiful and streak free result, so it’s easy to get an even tan and also to reach those areas that cannot be reached so easily with creams.
